Referral & Assessment Process

Step One

Once your Referral has been received by the Youth Homelessness Prevention Worker they will contact your referral. The Worker will then ask your referral a number of questions to assess the referrals’ current situation

Step Two

An appointment will then be made for your referral to come for a homelessness assessment (this could be straight away or within 24 hours depending on your referrals situation).

Step Three

At the assessment a detailed picture will be created of the referrals needs and current situation.

Step Four

Dependant the individual’s circumstances a home visit will be arranged.

Step Five

An action plan will be drawn up between your referral and the Homelessness Prevention Worker. The action plan could involve things like a planned move, referral to other agencies, mediation between parents and the referral, etc.

Step Six

At this stage we expect to have a positive outcome which involves the referral to be housed in an appropriate environment without having gone through a ‘Crisis’. Ultimately, we aim to have prevented your referral becoming homeless.

Agency Partners

The tenancy training programme is designed to improve confidence and knowledge amongst our customers enabling them to deal with benefits, bills, budgeting, debt, tenancy management and health and safety issues.

By giving them much more information on these topics we hope to empower them to take control of their tenancies therefore reducing the risk of eviction, abandonment and debt problems. The course also enables us to make a much better assessment of whether someone is ready for a tenancy and able to cope. It also gives us the chance to get to know potential customers and make better decisions about where to place them.

Each session last between 3 and 4 hours, with the total course being 10 hours. The course will be a pre-requisite of acceptance onto Foundation housing’s waiting list for some and failure to attend without good reason will result in customers being deferred for three months.

We believe that by offering this training, customers who we would normally have turned away will be given an opportunity to earn themselves a place. This will enable us to work with the more chaotic young people. We also believe there is value in having to earn your flat and your space. It is hoped that this will increase the respect that customers have for their property and for Foundation Housing.

By delivering information in this way the customers are given time to fully explore the different topics, ask questions and share experiences.

The course is fully adaptable to accommodate any special needs that a participant may have.
